The black persimmon, known as Kuro-gaki, serves as a source of inspiration for this project, reflecting a deep connection between nature and craftsmanship. Unlike the familiar bright orange fruit, it develops a rich, dark purple to almost black tone, giving it a distinctive and refined character.

Rare and difficult to cultivate, the Kuro-gaki embodies exclusivity and unpredictability — qualities that are mirrored in the making of each pair. Its natural variations and depth of color inspire the unique finishes and details found throughout the design.

Beyond the fruit itself, the tree is prized for its beautifully patterned dark wood, long used in traditional craftsmanship. This appreciation for material, texture, and detail is at the core of the project.
